CFNM, Boss Lady, FEMA/MEMA, and Donors from all over the world Set the Stage for Disaster Relief Efforts across the Nation

The Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi teamed up with Dr. Pam Chatman (Boss Lady Economic Planning & Development), FEMA, MEMA, local leaders and organizations, and donors from all over the world to assist with the recovery efforts from the 2023 tornado disaster that hit Sharkey and Humphreys counties as well as surrounding areas of the Mississippi Delta. Through this partnership, the Community Foundation has assisted in funding 20+ homes for renters who lost their homes as a result of the 2023 tornado. So far, around 1.2 million dollars in assets has been donated through CFNM’s Torando Relief Fund and put back into the community through the purchase of newly manufactured mobile homes. The homes are valued at $100,000-$150,000 each, but the price of purchasing through FEMA (averaging $6,600 per home) allows donations to make an even greater impact. Many of the homes come fully furnished, and all of them come with appliances. Recently, a handicap accessible mobile home was donated to a retired US Veteran. The current goal is to clear FEMA’s list (around 22 renters left) before the end of this year. Will you help us clear the list? Contribute to the cause by clicking here.

A ceremony recognizing a new partnership and donations made will be held on Tuesday, December 31st at 104 Jackson Street, Silver City, Mississippi, at 10:30 am. Rep. Bennie G. Thompson and other elected officials are scheduled to attend.
