Dr. Denise Bynum, director of the nursing program at Northwest Mississippi Community College, and other representatives of the institution received a grant to cap a grand total of $235,500 given from the Shoot For The Heart annual event since its inception in 2011. The granting provides scholarships and aid for deserving students in the nursing program.
The Northwest Mississippi Community College Division of Nursing received a check for $30,000 from the Shoot for the Heart fundraiser held on April 21, 2016. On hand for the check presentation were (left to right) Richie Lawson, vice president for Education; Dr. Matthew Domas, associate vice president for Education; Judy Wilson, Keith Wilson, founder of Shoot for the Heart; Taylor Jones, sophomore nursing student, Hernando; James Barrett, sophomore nursing student, Walls; Tom Pittman, president of The Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi; Preston Poole, sophomore nursing student, Red Banks; Dr. Denise Bynum, division director of Nursing and Sybil Canon, associate vice president of Development and Special Projects. The money will be used for nursing scholarships, as well as other special needs of the Nursing Division. The proceeds from the event are divided between the Northwest Nursing Division and St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
