Hernando, MS — August 18, 2025 — The Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi is proud to announce that Brenda Smith and Kara Dulaney, Co-Directors of the Maddox Nonprofit and Volunteer Resource HUB, have graduated from the Mississippi Alliance of Nonprofits and Philanthropy’s Nonprofit Civic Engagement Collective.
The Collective, which convenes nonprofit leaders from across the state, is designed to unite organizations around common causes, develop winning advocacy campaigns, and build stronger support systems for Mississippi’s nonprofit sector.
Through the program, Smith and Dulaney strengthened their skills in:
- IRS lobbying rights and limitations
- The Mississippi legislative process
- Frameworks for developing advocacy programs
- Building statewide peer networks
“This experience equips us to better serve Northwest Mississippi’s nonprofits by amplifying their voices, strengthening civic engagement, and working collaboratively for lasting change,” said Brenda Smith.
The Maddox Nonprofit and Volunteer Resource HUB, a program of the Community Foundation, provides training, resources, and support to help nonprofits and volunteers thrive. With the knowledge gained from the Civic Engagement Collective, Smith and Dulaney are prepared to help local nonprofits engage more effectively in advocacy and policy work.
