DeSoto County Dream Center Launches DC Healthy Hub Program to Improve Community Health
DeSoto County, MS — September 2025– The DeSoto County Dream Center has launched its DC Healthy Hub Program, a new initiative designed to improve community health through chronic disease management, client education, and access to fresh food and resources.
The program is the result of lessons learned through participation in the Healthy Hub Cohort, which provided the foundation for building a local model of health support that addresses the specific needs of families in DeSoto County.
“Implementing what we learned through the Healthy Hub Cohort through the launch of DC Healthy Hub Program has opened our eyes to what health education and resources can do for our community here in DeSoto County,” said Jenna Kern, Executive Director.
Through partnerships with organizations such as the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi, Trinity Health Center, Molina Healthcare, and Boss Lady Workforce Development, the DC Healthy Hub has already made an impact by:
-
Hosting community food distributions for families in need.
-
Connecting residents with health screenings and wellness resources.
-
Distributing fresh produce and pantry staples to promote healthier eating.
-
Providing client choice and meal-prep education with the help of donations from McCormick Spices.
By combining education with access to nutritious food and essential resources, the DC Healthy Hub empowers residents to make healthier choices and build sustainable habits that can last a lifetime.
“This program is about more than food—it’s about health, dignity, and hope,” said Brenda Smith, Co-Director of the Maddox Nonprofit & Volunteer Resource Hub who is a partner for the Healthy Hub Initiative. “We believe that when people have both knowledge and resources, they can thrive.”
The Dream Center’s DC Healthy Hub Program represents an important step forward in addressing health disparities, reducing chronic disease, and supporting the overall well-being of the DeSoto County community.
